Emergency Management (Diane Linderman/Teresa Hon)
Held spring face-to-face meeting in Washington, DC
Took a tour of the National Response Coordination Center and attended a briefing from staff while at FEMA headquarters
Met with FEMA staff members regarding public assistance, mutual aid and levee/flood issues
Committed to working with FEMA public assistance staff on priorities for public works community and began work on developing the list of priorities
Continued to represent APWA on several national working groups
Provide information to members of APWA/FEMA Education Focus Group for June meeting to determine training needs in public works
Posted monthly announcements on the Emergency infoNOW community
Continued to work with the Publications Subcommittee for a new publication entitled, Recovery Operations Field Manual
Investigated and narrowed down topics for Congress 2010 guaranteed sessions
Began to identify authors for January 2010 issue of the Reporter
Provided comments on several federal documents, statements and papers
Reviewed GAC and board recommendations to current position statements
Continued to refine the committee’s draft business plan for 2009-2010

Investigated and narrowed down topics for Congress 2010 guaranteed sessions
Submitted six articles for the June issue of the reporter
Began organizing project committees for the 360 degree evaluation and green scorecard projects
Posted items of interest to the Design Engineering & construction InfoNOW community
Continued to refine the committee’s draft business plan for 2009-2010
Began an update to the committee sponsored ADA position statement
Continued the update of the Roadway Maintenance Guide publication and the two new chapters
Facilities and Grounds (Ken Nerland/Colene Roberts)
Posted an electronic newsletter to the Operations InfoNOW community
Investigated and narrowed down topics for Congress 2010 guaranteed sessions
Selected topics for Reporter articles in 2010
Began putting together a subcommittee to work on a new publication on street trees
Began putting together a subcommittee to work on a new publication on green facilities management
Discussed ways to improve communications with chapters with the Chapter Relations Department
Reviewed the new job titles and job aids from the NIMS Public Works Working Group
Fleet (Ken Nerland/Teresa Hon)
Submitted six articles for the August issue of the Reporter
Provided input to APWA staff in identifying speakers and developing description for July 2009 fleet-related Click, Listen and Learn programming.
Continued to refine the committee’s business plan for the new fiscal year
Posted monthly announcements on the Fleet InfoNOW community.
Continued to work with NEMA 120 Resourcing Guide working group on equipment typing.
Investigated and narrowed down topics for Congress 2010 guaranteed sessions
Began work on a new guidance statement on Alternative Energy Vehicles.
Finalized plans for committee’s open forum discussion at 2009 Congress.
Requested DC staff to investigate potential changes to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s hours of service regulations.
Leadership and Management (Diane Linderman/Ann Daniels)
Planned and hosted two On-Line Mentoring calls with approximately 100 connections
Contributed three monthly articles in the “Cleaning Up the Kitchen” series for the Reporter
Finalized application and process for Emerging Leader Academy for 2009-2010
Three members made presentations to their chapters about beginning a new Public Works Institute
Selected dates and topics for six On-Line Mentoring calls for the upcoming fiscal year
Finalized development of the Business Plan for 2009-2010
Selected the title and theme for the next year’s monthly articles in the Reporter as “Back to Basics”
Two members will represent the Committee for the Feasibility phase of the new “Certified Public Works Official”
Began discussions concerning revising the “Basic Supervision” publication which is outdated
Finalized and sent Review of Standards of Professional Conduct and Proposed Enforcement of Standards of Professional Development to Board of Directors in completion of assignments from Blueprint for Education and Certification
Provided monthly postings and responses to the Management infoNOW community
Discussed the format of offering the Public Works Institutes on-line and asked the committee be involved in further discussions prior to a final decision
